1099 filing is an important process for ensuring your organization complies with IRS requirements for reporting compensation. This guide will help you understand how to get started, what’s required, and key deadlines to keep in mind.

Criteria for Filing 1099 Forms
Before you submit your 1099 forms, make sure the following requirements are complete:
- Accurate Earnings: Review and verify workers’ earnings using Branch’s tools, including the CSV download or individual earnings details.
- All Form Fields Complete: Ensure all required tax details for your workers are correctly filled in.
Then, in the new year, you’ll need to submit your filing in order for forms to be filed with the IRS and sent to your workers via email.
Filing Deadlines
The IRS designates a deadline every year for filing 1099 forms. Pay attention to this deadline and submit your filings through Branch at least 1-2 business days prior in order to avoid IRS penalties.
- Forms typically take 1–2 business days to be accepted by the IRS.
How and When Workers Receive Their 1099 Forms
Once the IRS accepts your filing, workers will receive their 1099 forms via an emailed link. This usually happens 1–2 business days after you submit your filing.
- Note: The IRS may have a filing freeze until mid-January, so forms submitted before this date will not be accepted or distributed until it has passed.
How and When Your Organization Receives 1099 Forms
Your organization can download individual 1099 forms through the 1099 Taxes page in your Pay Admin tool.
- For bulk downloads, contact your account manager for assistance.
IRS Filing Threshold
The IRS filing threshold depends on the form type and the year. Any worker who meets that filing threshold will require a 1099 form to be filed. Branch automatically determines this based on payouts that your organization sends through the platform, including any non-Branch payouts you add. It’s very important that you review worker earnings in our platform against your system of record for accuracy.
Branch is not a bank. Banking services are provided by Lead Bank, Member FDIC and Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC, which are Branch’s bank partners. The name of the bank partner for your account is listed on the back of your debit card and can also be found in the Branch App under “Your Account Information”. FDIC insurance only applies to eligible accounts should the bank holding your funds fail. Branch Mastercard Debit Cards are issued by Evolve Bank & Trust or Lead Bank, Member FDIC, as applicable, pursuant to a license from Mastercard and may be used everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted.
