Managing worker tax details keeps your 1099-NEC/K filings accurate and compliant. With end-to-end 1099-NEC/K tax filing, workers collect and maintain most of their own tax information—this guide covers what you're still responsible for, how to review and adjust earnings, and how to apply corrections.
What Workers Manage Themselves
Workers with an active Branch account manage their own name, address, TIN, filing type, and delivery preference from the Branch app or Branch Direct—see 1099-NEC/K Worker Self-Service Guide for what this covers.
Workers can't change earnings or payout amounts—those remain under your control, so direct earnings questions to your team.
Reviewing Worker Tax Details
Review Earnings for Accuracy
- Use the Download button in the upper-right of the 1099 Taxes page to export a CSV of worker tax form details, including earnings.
- Earnings are calculated automatically for payouts sent through Branch. Add non-Branch payouts to the CSV before uploading.
Note: Branch finalizes payouts in early January, so review earnings then. You can add non-Branch payouts at any time.
Check Individual Worker Details
- To review a specific worker, click the three dots next to their name and select Edit Tax Details. This lets you view their address, earnings, and other 1099-NEC/K form fields.
CSV Upload Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues while uploading a CSV file, follow these troubleshooting steps:
-
Verify Worker IDs. Ensure the worker ID in your CSV matches a roster record. If not, add the worker to your roster, wait for their details to populate in the 1099 Taxes tab, then download a fresh CSV.
- Note: programs like Numbers can strip leading zeros from worker IDs or ZIP codes—use Excel or a plain text editor instead.
- Check Compensation Formatting. Ensure amounts in the Non-Branch compensation column are formatted in cents. For example, $32.00 should be entered as 3200.
- Ensure Correct TIN Formatting. The TIN must be formatted as a 9-digit number or the value MATCH.
- Allow Time for Updates to Reflect. Give the system a minute or two to process updates after uploading. For larger files, refresh the page to see changes in the 1099 Taxes tab.
- Preserve CSV Headers. Ensure all column headers from your original CSV download are included and unchanged in your upload.
Adjusting Worker Earnings
Adjust Earnings in Bulk
- Download the existing CSV file from the 1099 Taxes page.
- Add or update earnings in the Non-Branch Payouts column. Branch payouts are auto-calculated and can't be edited.
- Re-upload the updated CSV using the Upload Records option.
Adjust Individual Worker Earnings
- Click the three dots next to a worker's name and select Edit Tax Details. Update their non-Branch payouts to adjust their total earnings.
Note: Total earnings on the 1099-NEC/K form include both Branch and non-Branch payouts. The non-Branch payouts field supports both positive and negative values.
Adding and Managing Worker Records
Workers Missing from the CSV — Ensure the worker is on your organization's roster. Workers not on the roster won't appear in the CSV download and can't have filings submitted.
Workers No Longer with Your Organization — Workers active on your roster at any point during the year appear in the 1099 Taxes tab even after they've left, so qualifying earnings are still filed.
Filing for Workers Without a Branch Account
- Add the worker to your roster.
- Complete their tax details using Edit Tax Details or a CSV upload.
- Check their TIN verification status.
Workers Who Haven't Completed Their Tax Profile — These workers continue to be prompted in-app and appear under the Not Ready filter. You can reach out to them directly, complete their details yourself, or choose not to file for them.
Applying Corrections to Filed Forms
See 1099-NEC/K Form Corrections Guide for the full process — the admin-initiated correction flow, worker-submitted corrections, who has self-service access based on delivery preference, and how payout reversals are handled before and after filing.
Additional Notes on Worker Tax Details
When TIN Verification Fails — A mismatch means the SSN and full name, or business name and EIN, don't match IRS records—see How do I file a 1099-NEC/K form? for what happens next and how to track verification status.
Workers can correct information for TIN verification fails. However, after the form is filed, only workers with e-delivery can correct via self-service in the app.
- For workers with paper mail delivery, who don't have self-service access after a form is filed, review and update the information directly in Pay Admin—see 1099-NEC/K Form Corrections Guide for how self-service access works by delivery preference.
Why ITINs and SSNs Aren't Visible — For security reasons, Branch can't display previously submitted TINs. Re-enter the information if an update is needed.

Branch is not a bank. Banking services are provided by Lead Bank, Member FDIC and Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC, which are Branch’s bank partners. The name of the bank partner for your account is listed on the back of your debit card and can also be found in the Branch App under “Your Account Information”. FDIC insurance only applies to eligible accounts should the bank holding your funds fail. Branch Mastercard Debit Cards are issued by Evolve Bank & Trust or Lead Bank, Member FDIC, as applicable, pursuant to a license from Mastercard and may be used everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted.
